Painted Nails & Time for Me

I've never been one to have painted nails.  Not only have I always been horrible at keeping up with them, but they always end up driving me nuts.  It's something you have to stay on top of if you want them to look good.

I hear some women say after they have kids they stop having time to care about themselves and put effort into their looks.  Occasionally, I do use Andie as my excuse, but really I have never really been great at taking the time to beautify myself like I should.  I don't think it's too much different with her here.  Work meetings force me to get out of my work out clothes and get somewhat put together.  Pony tails and very little make up are common in my world.  But something about my painted nails has recently been making me feel better, more feminine, and more put together.

It's my "secret solo mommy behavior"  (see also: "secret single behavior (ssb) from Sex & The City).  Lets face it, we all need a few moments to unwind - no matter how sweet our children and significant others are, it's important and healthy to have a little solo time.  It's time for me to be by myself in my bathroom to give myself a mini manicure.  I need time for them to dry, so it can't be when she's napping in case she wakes up - it needs to be dedicated time for me.  No diaper changes, baths, outfit changes until they're completely dry.  It's time for me to just relax.  I am very fortunate (as I know not all moms get this time) to have a husband home in the evenings to occasionally give me this time.  And I have really loved picking up some new colors for fall.

So, what about you?  What do you do in that time to yourself?

This is too funny!!! I am exactly the same way, didn't really care before but now suddenly do! Must be a mom thing. :)

Love this! My favorite part of the day is when I'm getting ready to start the day or just getting a shower to wind down at night. This might be an idea I have to start incorporating into my "me" time since I work from home and also live in ponytails and with very little make-up. Thanks for sharing! :)

This is too funny that you posted this...I have been thinking that I want to start getting my nails done. There's something about having good looking nails that makes me feel put together.

I've never been one for painting my nails for the plain and simple reason that I am absolutely terrible at it. My hands always look like a 3 year old has taken to them with markers afterwards, ha! But I'm so glad you're finding a bit of time to set aside for yourself... it's important! :) xxx

I really need to do better at taking the time to paint them...it'd be a great activity for after Elyse goes to bed and we're just hanging out in front of the tv!

My nails always look so much better when I paint them...and the fall colors are so fun!

I looooove going to have my nails done by someone else, but I hate doing them myself. I get so stressed out doing it because I never think I do a good job and I get anxious sitting there not being able to touch anything while they dry. But I love having painted nails!!

Love this! I have suddenly started getting into painting my nails too. Before I would never do it because my right hand would turn out so bad, but have to say I'm getting better!

Time for myself is definitely spent on pampering; massage, facial, mani/pedi!

I think it is SO important for new Mom's to take the time to make themselves look/feel beautiful. New Dads don't want to associate a new baby with the lose of his wife caring about herself and looking good for him

Nails are so hard to keep up on. . . I'm awful about that. I saw a pretty Essie cranberry color online that I was tempted to try though. : )

I usually like to unwind with a good book or girly movie. Lately I've been carving out time to go for a run. I'm "pre kids" so finding "me" time looks a little different then it will if munchkins enter the picture! :)

You are amazing, you don't take time to "beautify" yet you always look gorgeous! Truly naturally beautiful. I unwind by catching up on blogs while watching the Real Housewives...my guilty pleasure.

I have the weekend to myself and I'm going to catch up on my blogs and go get my eyebrows done.
