Travel Bucket List

TL and I have been very fortunate to travel during our first few years of marriage.  It was important to both of us and we made a priority to do it because the time we are together traveling is truly a time for us to connect.  It is also wonderful for us to experiences new places and make new memories together.

Now, we have a new little sugar to throw in the mix, and although traveling will never be the same (or as uncomplicated) as it was when it was just the two of us, we still have the same passion for making new memories and experiencing life together.  I have seen many people travel with their little ones and they inspire us to want to do the same.

So... here is my little bucket list for places and experiences in the US:

Portland, Oregon
Seattle, Washington
Vancouver, British Columbia
The Grand Canyon
Nashville, Tennessee
Nantucket, Massachusetts
(we actually want to rent a car and drive up the coast - Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine - during the fall someday)
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Niagara Falls
Boston, Massachusetts
Chicago, Illinois
Yellowstone National Park
Washington DC

Anywhere I should add to the list?  Hidden gems?
Are you from any of these places?  Where should we stay, see, and eat?

I know you've been to Minneapolis - but you should come back! Me and Kenley can show you and Andie all the best stuff. :)

I grew up in Upstate New York and if you're around the Niagara Falls area, you absolutely must visit the Finger Lakes. So beautiful and some of the best wineries!

You can totally travel with a little! In fact, we are traveling with our 10 month old right now and living in Spain. It's so easy since he's little and portable.

Oh and this list is fantastic! I heard another gem is Savannah!

I love the idea of making a travel bucket list. We have also wanted to rent a car and drive up the coast during the fall, my in-laws did it and they said it was one of their favorite experiences.

Great post, Tracy! It's great to travel, I always love your travel posts :-) D and I want to travel more - New York is next on our list!

The Grand Canyon is incredible - I only spent a day there, but when D and I hopefully do a California road trip, I'd love to go back and possibly stay there.

I would add the North Carolina outer banks. Tons of history, beautiful beaches, wild horses - awesome.

Being a Midwestern girl, I suggest visiting somewhere in the middle of the country! Hubby and I have each moved away from our home states due to the military, but we enjoy visiting when we can. His family is in WI, mine is in KS. Those places aren't as exciting as most places on your list, but it's nice to enjoy a slower pace sometimes. We love visiting in the fall, and there are lots of B&Bs all over the Midwest.

I love your list!! Last summer, we went to Seattle and took the train to Vancouver. We went during sunset hour, and the train goes along the coast, so it was the prettiest view during sunset hour!
I've also been to Chicago, but we didn't have much time there. We had the famous Chicago pizza at Gino's, had some Garrett popcorn, the famous Chicago hot-dog, went to the Millenium park (where the Bean is) and to Wrigley field. We wanted to go to the top of the tower where you sit on glass and it looks like you're sitting on top of the whole city, but it was so overcast, we wouldn't be able to see anything, so we didn't pay to go up there :(

Many of these places are on our list too! One day... We also want to go to DC and NY!

Instead of Myrtle Beach, stay in a more local and less touristy area like Pawley's Island. Then you can visit Myrtle Beach for the day but enjoy the peaceful less crowded beaches at Pawley's. Also visit Charleston, SC and the neighboring beaches of Isle of Palms, Kiawah, and Edisto Island!

I have been meaning to write a post like this for awhile, so I loved reading this! As much as I love international travel, there really are so many awesome places right here in the US that are so worth seeing! If you end up taking a trip up to Portland (which you totally should because it's awesome!) be sure to let me know because I'd love to see you!! xoxo

So many of these are on my list! I also want to go to Austin, Texas! I've done a lot of European vacations and really want to start exploring the US more! I'm excited to travel with my 9 month old but my husband is hesitant. So right now we are sticking to long weekend trips that are within driving distance.

Savannah and Charleston!! I live an hour south of Savannah and it is beautiful in the "spring" and "fall" (in the south there are really only 1.5 seasons....HOT summer and a cold snap in February). There is so much to see and do in each of those cities and the restaurants are unreal!

Honestly, I think you can cross myrtle off the list- I have never understood why people make it a destination! We have so many nice beaches in the Carolina's that are cleaner, prettier, and just as fun! I'd recommend Charleston/isle of Palms or Wrightsville.

all go any of those places with you! i still haven't been to big sur or santa Barbara... and seattle, portland, austin, and dc are places i havent been to but are at the top of my list

I live in Toronto which is about 1.5 hours from Niagara Falls - it's nice but has turned very very touristy! If you're going to Niagara Falls, definitely check out Niagara on the Lake - it's full of wineries!

i was secretly hoping nashville was on your list ;) you know i promise to be an EXCELLENT tour guide!!

P.S. you TOTALLY need to add Charleston, SC to your list...AMAZING city!!!

You have a great list Tracy! If you get to the point of planning your Portland/Seattle trips you know I can help you out :-) Boston too! I would say to add Yosemite to your list (we are going later this month for our 1st time, shhhhh it's a surprise 35th wedding anniv. trip for dear hubs!! I hope you and TL and AJ continue to travel and make memories while securing your family unit!!

fantastic list! the top three are some of my favorite cities - besides SF, of course. Portland has especially captured my heart. You'll love it!

I love your list but I really think you should think about adding this place to your list. I know you have Nashville, TN on there but really look into going to Gaitlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN. It's amazing there and the Smokey Mountains are something everyone should see!

Really glad to see so many posts even after the arrival of little Andie. Keep up the good work lady. Also to add to your buckets list. I would highly, highly recommend seeing the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City at Christmas time at night. It's so beautiful you'll never see anything like it.

great list! I'd really love to spend 3-4 days in each of these places...I've only been to Chicago, DC, & Niagara Falls of the places you've mentioned!

Seattle and Portland are two cities I visit regularly for work, and I never complain - they're both gorgeous and full of fun things to do. The hubby and I vacationed in those cities two years ago and we had a blast!

Nashville's on my list too - I'm dying to see all the country music stuff!

One place to add - Key West, FL. Amazing island, tons of outdoorsy things to do, great food, and amazing people!

Lived in Boston and DC - visit the North End for the best Italian food ever and see a Sox game. In DC...check out the Adam's Morgan neighborhood.. super hip and fun!

From a visitor's perspective, here are my faves in the places I've been...
Portland - Multnomah Falls. So beautiful.
The Grand Canyon - Just go. It puts life in perspective.
Nashville - The plantations were gorgeous.
Nantucket - Agreed. Fall is the best time to go. Make sure to visit Kennebunkport, Maine. The colors are so amazing.
Chicago - Navy Pier and shopping on Magnificent Mile.

Happy domestic travels!
