5 on Friday

Linking up with one of my favorite bloggers, Natasha, from Hello Happiness and some other great gals!

1. I have had our birth story written out and ready to post now for a few days... but I haven't had the courage to post it.  Part of me is nervous that I share too much.  But then another part of me is thinking... oh, who cares?  It's not that big of a deal - if people don't like, they don't have to read, right?
{Andie's sponge bath at the hospital}

2. I have been obsessed with quotes for a very long time - and my obsession got worse with the invention of pinterest.  Sometimes I see quotes and I think, I need to plaster that on my wall to remind myself of these things.  I also sometimes think... I know someone that needs to read this!

3. I didn't have many cravings when I was pregnant.  The food aversions I had actually turned me on to healthier choices.  Not so much now.  It's crazy, since having her, I have had huge cravings - and not in a good way.  I love anything with sugar.  I have my check up with my doctor next week, so I am giving myself until then to splurge - but after next week, hopefully I can lace up my running shoes {i've been itching to get back into running since before I even got pregnant} and get back into good shape.  And hopefully kick out some of these "cravings".
{This was dinner last night.  At least it's better than most fast food, right?}

4. Along with number 3, I need to start trying some new recipes again.  I haven't cooked anything in a couple months.  Pinterest is always so tempting, but I need to bite the bullet and do it.  Any easy recommendations for something I have to try?

5. The weather in Northern California is changing... and a heat wave is coming.  I love the beautiful sunshine, but 100s is just not appealing to me.  But, Andie has some pretty cute swimsuits and my parents have a shady pool - so maybe we will have to make the most of it.
{How cute is this little number?}

On a separate note... does anyone know how to embed pictures from pinterest on your blog?  It's driving me crazy that it doesn't work anymore like it used to!!

Happy Friday... have a wonderful weekend!

Meeting Great Grandma & Grandpa

I have been abundantly blessed to be a part of a large family - one that is closer than most families and has a strong foundation of two incredible people.

These people are my grandma and grandpa.  They raised 7 sons together - all are married with families of their own - and with our growing and expanding family, I have watched them beam with pride of the family tree that started with just them.

Andie has a special connection to the number 11.
{Thanks for figuring this out mom}
She was born on May 11th.
She was born to my grandparent's 11th grandchild (me).
She is the 11th great grandchild.
She is the 11th member of my parent's immediate family.

So, it was only fitting that she met her great grandparents on the 11th day of her life!

This was so special to me.  My grandparents are two of the most incredible people I know... people like them are rare.  They truly have set an example for how I strive to live my life. I can't express how many hundreds of people cherish them in our community... they're just good people with big hearts.  TL and I both hope to follow the example they have set... valuing people, experiences, and life.

We are so lucky to have them in our lives!

 {Aren't they just the cutest!!}
 {Grandparents and my dad - 4 generations!}
We LOVE them!

Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone is enjoying their 3 day weekend.  It's the best one yet for us :)
I am taking some time today to think about the brave people who serve and have served to protect our country and their families.  We are very grateful for your service!

Andie's Newborn Photos "Sneak Peek"

When Andie was just a few days old, our friend and photographer Veronica {Nica Photography} took pictures of her!  She is still working on getting all of the images together, but sent over a few that she has finished up.

Andie was so good for her photo shoot.  She never cried, even through the outfit changes and us maneuvering her into different positions.  It was so much fun to see her all dressed up - even though most of the bows and bloomers were a little big on her petite frame.

Goodness sakes... we love this little girl!!

Picking out her bows and bloomers for this was so fun :)
Veronica is a fantastic photographer, and such a joy to work with.  We can't wait to see the rest!!

If you're in need of a little laugh...

This video made me crack up... I don't know why, but it's so funny to me!  My BIL, Dave, showed this to us and we couldn't stop laughing.

These are some angry goats...

 Have I mentioned I want a goat?

Hope you're having a great week :)

One Week Postpartum Thoughts

It's hard for me to fathom that just over a week ago today, I was pregnant.  I still had this sweet girl living in my belly.  I was anxious and excited to see her face for the first time.
In some ways, I miss feeling her in my belly - the movements, kicks, and life developing inside. But the joy of her being here is unlike anything I have ever experienced.  It's truly a miracle, and when I look at her - my whole body is filled with love.

We've had a very busy week.  The poor girl was slightly jaundiced, so we were back to the doctors office for the awful poke-her-in-the-foot-until-she-bleeds-a-ton blood tests.  Thankfully, the levels dropped below the 'high risk' category on Friday, so we didn't have to go back this weekend.

We've also seen several sweet visitors.  Andie has met many of our friends and family members.  We love sharing her with others - we will always remember the strong support we've received from so many special people in our lives.  Our neighbor, Carol, has cooked us lots of sweet desserts and a delicious homemade meal that TL and I devoured.  Having her next door has been amazing!

What's been the best part of the week?
Holding her, staring at her, singing to her, reading to her.  Seeing my husband be a daddy.  I use the word "blissful" to describe my feelings about her first week home with us.  I never understood that love could make me feel this way.  Sometimes we lay her in between us and just stare at her and kiss her little hands and feet.  We've also been known to "fight" over who gets to hold her :)

What's been the hardest part of the week?
+ I have had a couple moments where I have broken down crying... my hormones have made me a little more sensitive than usual (I am already sensitive) and the overwhelming thought of how quickly time passes has really been hard for me.  Even if I just think about it, my eyes fill with tears.  I want her to stay little so I can enjoy her and remember every detail of her.  I was pumping and crying {multitasking} and TL sat with me and reminded me that each stage of her life will have something special.  She had one night where she didn't want to go back to sleep and even though she was fussy and I was sleepy - I was happy as I reminded myself that I would someday want this time back.

+ I have been sore and had trouble getting an appetite.  I know I need to eat well so I can make some healthy milk for her, but it's been tough getting my system regulated since her birth.

+ Because she's a peanut {she dropped to 5 pounds 10oz at the hospital} I have had lots of worry about her eating enough.  I just want her to be healthy and have enough... luckily, when we met with the lactation consultant, I was relieved to hear that she gets enough milk - even though she may only eat for 5 minutes.  But the worry is always in the back of my mind.  I don't think "worrying" about her is going to go away.  Ever.  I think it's just part of my life now.

Memories that stand out...
+ Andie has a "Milk Dance" {with help from her dad} where she throws her hands in the air and moves them and sings "I want milk... give me my milk... I need milk".  It's very amusing and funny at 3am.  Or anytime, actually.
+ we've seen lots of smiles (probably gas, but we'll take them) and realized she has dimples while we were in the hospital.
+ my dad and TL gave her the first bath on her first night home from the hospital.  It was special for me to watch because my dad loves babies and I know it was something I will remember forever.
+ we went on our first road trip to my sisters house - she lives about an hour and a half away - for her baby shower (YES, my sister is pregnant with a baby girl... due in August, YAY!).  TL came along so he could stay with her while I went to the shower for a little while.  On our way home, she got hungry - so we pulled over into an almond orchard to feed her.  We both giggled when we thought of where we were and what we were doing.  Oh, how life has changed.  And we wouldn't trade it for anything.
+ we tried giving her a paci for the first time on Sunday.  Every time we would stick it in there, she would spit it out.  Finally she took it for a few seconds and while she was sucking on it, she was looking around, probably thinking "what the heck is this!?"
+ TL has been incredible.  I expected he would be, but you never know until the time comes.  He's up with us every night.  Helped me get adjusted to bre*stfeeding, sat with me, changed all the diapers, and most importantly - his love for her is unlike anything.  He is in awe of her.  He's also been so good to me - reminding me how much he loves me and encouraging me every day.
+ one of my favorite memories from this week was seeing TL read her first book to her.  It's the "I'll love you forever" book.  He started crying after reading the first two pages.  And by the 3rd page, we were both in a full blown cry while he read to her.  We decided it was best to close that one up and leave it on the shelf for a little while.  Since then, she's been enjoying some Dr. Seuss and more light reads.

All about Andie:
She's been a very mellow baby which we hear is to be expected because she is so new.  She loves to look around when she is awake, and even though we know she can't see well, she scans the room and takes in what she can when we hold her.  The first few days, she hardly cried.  I actually asked the doctor if that was normal.  Now, she is finally starting to get more vocal.  She makes little noises and finally - she is letting us know when she is hungry.  For most of the first week, we had to get her naked, tickle her feet, and change her diaper to wake her up to feed her.  She makes lots of little noises, yawns, sneezes, and gets the hiccups at least a couple times a day.  She can lift her own head to look around and loves to sleep on top of us.

I try not to think about the future at all right now.  I just want to enjoy the present.  TL and I are both fortunate to have some time with her away from work for a few weeks.  We're still getting to know her, develop a little schedule, and even though I didn't realize it was possible, I am falling more and more in love with her every day.

Chubby cheeks - just like mom and dad when we were born.
Introducing our furbabies to Andie.  They've done pretty well!
Sleeping with daddy.
 First doctor's appointment.

I have sat down and started her little birth story.  I will share soon, mainly so I can remember the details forever. We also have some sweet pictures that I am very excited to share :)

Thank you to ALL of you who have commented on my posts, pictures, instagram, facebook, etc.  I haven't taken time to respond, but please know that I read them all and each one of them brings me so much happiness.  Your support and excitement means so much to us!

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Andie Jean is here!

5.11.13
A very special day.  The best day of our lives.

Andie Jean arrived at 2:47pm weighing 5 pounds, 15 ounces and 18.5 inches long.

We are overwhelmed with LOVE for this little girl.  I can't wait to share her little birth story (she came  early, but is healthy, yay!) and lots more pictures.  But right now, we are just soaking in all of this time with her.  I wish time would stand still.  The days are passing too quickly!!  I have fallen even more in love with my husband.  He is the most helpful, loving, and generous man - and watching him become a father is a moment I will never forget.  This little girl has made our dreams come true.  We are abundantly blessed.

Here's a few pictures!
 Admiring our girl.  Family of 3!
 Taking her home from the hospital - very excited!
 Daddy and Pops giving her the first bath!
Our sweet girl - the photographer at the hospital took some great newborn pics (this was on a cell phone!)

Thank you to everyone for the sweet comments, texts, phone calls, etc.  It has meant so much to us to be surrounded by so many loving people.  We really appreciate all the love!

Andie's Nursery

I spent a lot of time looking around trying to figure out how I wanted to make this girl's room come together.  I created an inspiration board - and kept that in the back of my mind while we looked.  Once we found the staple pieces of furniture, the hardest (but most fun) part was figuring out placement and how to decorate it.

I am by no means an interior decorator and I am sure many of the creative ladies out there could have pulled it together better.  But I am pretty excited for this to be Andie's little abode when she comes home.  It's a good fit for us... and a whole lot'a love was put into it :)

...these pictures gave me something to work with, an idea.

Help Crossing the Street

TL likes surfing all sorts of websites, and one he looks at often is The Chive - so I will sometimes look through it {I know, it's a dude site} just so I can relate to him when he finds something cool on there.

Today, I watched this video... and I have to share... because this simple video says a lot about humanity.  It's from a Russian dash camera, give it a second to get started.

The guy who posted it said this:

"It’s a cold, dark world, but people still take your hand and help you cross the street. I don’t know, I just think that’s kind of beautiful."

and I totally agree.

Hope you have a great weekend!

My thoughts on a Thankful Thursday

{via pinterest}

It's May 2nd... I truly cannot believe it!
Where has this year gone?  It's gone by faster than any other year so far.

I have so much to be thankful for.  I do my best to remind myself everyday.
Today, here's what I am thankful for:

1. my husband. my goodness, this man is my best friend.  I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited/nervous/anxious/every-emotion-you-can-think-of to see how this baby girl is going to change our lives, our relationship, etc.  I was awake before him the other morning and I laid next to him thinking about our time with just us two and how it is expiring soon.  We don't have a perfect relationship, but I am so crazy about his spirit & character... I have faith that we will make the most of our new chapter together.  I am so lucky to have him.  He makes me feel so loved & special... and most importantly, he makes me laugh.  Every day.

2. my mom.  She lost her mom when she was 17 years old.  The 40th anniversary of her death was on Sunday.  I know my mom misses her terribly - and if I could meet any person in the whole universe, it would be my grandma.  I have grown up hearing stories about her... she was a beautiful woman, I have no doubt.  It's incredible that in 17 short years she built my mom up and planted the seeds to make her the woman she is today.  She must have been something really special, because my mom sure is.  I am thankful everyday to have the relationship I do with my mom.  She's absolutely the most incredible woman I know.

3. my sisters.  It's so exciting that all 3 of us are going to be moms.  My sister, Julie, and I are both pregnant right now (sorry Juls, letting the cat out of the bag).  She is due in August with a baby girl and the excitement of our girls being so close in age is truly amazing.  I know the bond the 3 of us have will strengthen tremendously as we all become mothers.

4. my friends.  near and far.  I can't express the gratitude I have in my heart for the people in my life.

5. health.  all the way around.  My health, my family's health, and this baby girl's health.  We had a scare at 29 weeks - spent some time in the hospital, and we were spiraled into some unexpected ups and downs.  But, I have been reassured by our wonderful doctors that she is doing great.  I am so grateful for intelligent and trustworthy doctors and medical professionals.  I didn't write or expose much on my blog but I might, because I know many people can relate and have gone through similar situations.  I am so grateful for the family and friends who expressed so much love, support, and concern... and I am even more grateful that this little girl is still cookin' and getting stronger.  She had the best antepartum testing so far on Tuesday.  It's truly amazing what our bodies do, from the time of conception all the way through... I have learned so much about the science of it all, and it blows me away!

6. our home. air conditioner. food. the things we work hard for, are lucky to have and that are so easy to take for granted.  I am thankful for them all.

With yesterday being May 1st... I had a realization.  I called TL at work to tell him:

In the coming weeks, we are going to experience the best day of our life so far.

Now that is something special to be thankful for.

What are you thankful for?
