i love my dogs.

We had quite the scare with my little Maximus over the last 36 hours.  I realized just how much I really love these little guys and how much I am willing to do to take away their pain.

Yesterday afternoon, Maxi started acting funny.  He was stretching a lot and just acting odd.  I called our vet clinic and talked to the tech (he knows me pretty well because I call about everything!)  I thought he had pain in his hips, but the tech said that he probably had an upset stomach.

As the night progressed, he got a little better.  We fed him his dinner.  Then things started going down hill from there.  He couldn't sit still.  He was yelping and crying and lounging his body.  It was killing me to see him in so much pain.  So I did what all crazy psycho dog lovers do, and I started crying and babying him like crazy.

I stayed up with Maximus while TL took Zeus to bed to comfort him (he didn't like seeing his brother in pain either).

The pain really started getting worse at 11p.m. and finally, at 1 a.m., I couldn't take it anymore.  I loaded little Maximus in the car and drove him 35 minutes to an emergency vet clinic.  (Thank goodness I had a good friend to talk to on the way there to calm me down)

Maximus cried the entire drive there.  They looked at him, and took an X Ray.  He had a huge wad of food in his stomach, and the intestines weren't taking the food.

I was there for a few hours - then decided to take him to our normal vet for a better idea of how to handle the situation.

I jammed over to my parents house with Maximus at 4:15 a.m. (they live closer to the vet than we do) and stayed up with him crying and pacing until 6:30.  Then we made it over to our favorite Doctor.  He always gives amazing care.  They ended up doing more X Rays and exams and ended up inducing vomiting.

Although we don't know exactly what was going on with him, it sounds like a fluke thing with his digestive system.

He is feeling better.  Still very uncomfortable and taking it easy with the food, but better.  I am so relieved.

I haven't slept.  But I just love him too much to let anything happen to him.  Seeing any animal suffer is awful enough, but seeing your own makes it even worse!

Call me the crazy dog lady, I don't care ;)  I love my two guys.

I took a few pictures of him today while I was texting with TL.

Very bloated after lots of fluids.  Hanging with mom in the waiting room.
Car drive home.  Finally got him to sleep for a few minutes.
Back home with his brother.  Zeus wouldn't leave his side.

Thank you for all the sweet words on facebook & twitter.
I gave him lots and lots of love.  And now, he is sleeping in TL's lap after eating a soft dinner.

Keep sending your doggie thoughts this way, we need 'em!

OH GOD LOVE it (THEM) They're both so precious! HOW we are reminded of just HOW attached we are to them and love them like families in these dire times of need eh? I have been right there (as you know-I am that crazy fur mommy with you child) I HATE that for you and and the babies BOTH because it is exhausting, you worry yourself sick and then try and comfort them and you just want to scoop them up and run for help! :( BUT it does sound just like a fluke deal that happened....these little dogs I think sometimes take the bigger blows ya know? They're SOOO very fragile! LOVE the picture of Zeus snuggling with brother!! SO glad you have Max back home where he belongs with you and TL Trace!! Daise and I will say lots of Maxi prayers!!! He is lucky to have you child!!!!!!

Ohmygosh this brought tears to my eyes! I am SO glad he's okay, but what a scare! I cant express enough how glad I am he is okay! I've seen Gracie hurting-not this badly-but it just literally takes air from my lungs and breaks my heart! He and Zeus are so sweet laying together in that last pic... So precious. Good doggie thoughts headed your way.... and warm people ones too for you and TL to get some better rest tonight knowing your little man is going to be okay.

Poor baby! Those are the sweetest pictures ever. That makes me feel so bad for him b/c he must have felt terrible. Dogs really don't complain for nothing.

Oh Tracy ~ I feel your pain. I can only imagine what you were going through. I would jump in front of a bus to save Molly ~ she means that much to me. We had quite a scare with her a couple of years ago and I cried like a baby. Our animals are our children ~ nothing wrong with giving them lots of love. Hugs to you and Max. xo

Aw I don't think anyone will think you are a crazy dog lady! Especially people who have pets themselves. They are family and we will absolutely do as much as we can for them! Hopefully he's feeling even better today :):) And keep spoiling him with love :D

Aww they are so precious! I would be a nervous wreck too. My dog means the world to me just like people do. I'm glad to hear he's starting to feel better. The last picture of the two of them together is seriously the sweetest picture I've ever seen! So cute! <3

OMG. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE FEELING because our dachshund, McGruff, has been sick too. I mentioned it briefly last week on the blog but he's still not well and I'm taking him back today. :( McG is having issues with his back and just isn't being his usual perky self. It makes me sad. I cried yesterday.

I'm so sorry you had such a scare. I do know how you feel. McGruff is the most important thing in our lives and we would be devistated if something happened to him. McGruff sends his brother Maxi get well wishes and hugs.

I am so sorry about poor Maximus! I'm glad he's doing better! I had a similar situation with my westie (as a puppy he was very partial to eating sticks). I hope he continues to feel better!

Oh Tracy, I am SO SORRY! You are NOT a crazy dog mommy, I have done the same thing multiple times! Crying and all!! I run to the vet if my Golden sneezes funny!! My husband thinks I am a nut but he is like my child and I wouldn't treat him any less! SO glad to hear he is feeling better! Make sure you get some rest too! xoxo

Oh this made me cry!! I hope he is feeling better and this was just a fluke thing that isn't serious!! I know how hard it is to see your babies in pain :(

I love reading your blog because I have 2 Daschund - chihuahua mix brother/sister pups. They have taken me to the emergency clinic more times than I can count. I can't bear to see them in pain, or even a little unhappy. Yours obviously have a very good mommy!

Aww poor little Max! I'm so glad to hear that he's doing better! I had a similar situation happen with Howie. Long story short, he got into the food bin somehow and had to have his stomach pumped at 3 in the morning at the emergency vet. It was such a scary time, dogs truly are like children and when they are in pain it is heartbreaking. I'm glad Max has such a great family to nurse him back to health. :-)

Omgoodness poor little babies! I know exactly what you are going through and it is the worst feeling ever. My dog started acting that way too and after x rays and everything under the sun he went back to normal. They blamed it on his stomach too :( Then two weeks later we came home and my friend had left an ibuprofen packet on our coffee table (we had no idea she did this) and we found the paper everywhere on the couch, and no pills were found. We didn't know which one ate them, or what so we had to take them to the emergency vet. Three days later of vet visits, overnight treatments, they survived. I am praying for you girl!!! I hope your little man is doing better!

I love dogs. I'm so that crazy dog lady and proudly claim that title LOL I am really happy to hear that he is feeling somewhat better. My dog is my whole world, my fur child as I always say. I hope the way we take care of our pets is a good indicator of how we will take care of maybe some day human kids!

Oh my gosh, y'all poor poor things!! I cannot imagine how scared you were. I'm so glad that he is feeling a little bit better! We have had a similar scare before...I am definitely a crazy lady, too. These are my babies! We have been at the emergency vet at 1 am! Poor little babies! Hope that he continues to feel better!

Awww I'm so sorry it took me a while to get to this post but again my heart really goes out to you and your pups! So so glad that M. is doing better and what a fabulous mom you are for taking care of them both, and taking him to the vet. Hope he gets back to his old self soon. I would be a crazy dog lady too if I had your pups and we both know one day I will have my pups! ;)
