The Glass Castle

While we were on our vacation, I found time to start reading books again.  I was nearly through my first one after the flight over to Maui and I've found the small time I had to read really sparked my addiction again!  I've only finished 2 books since (One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell & Eat, Pray, Love)  Although they were both good reads, especially Eat, Pray, Love, I really appreciated the book I just finished today - The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

Not only is it meaningful and beautifully written, it's the truth... and I had to keep reminding myself that this was a memoir of her life -- even when what she was writing was so unbelievable.

If you're looking for something to read, I strongly recommend it.  You will graciously be reminded to appreciate the small things in life & it shows the rare characteristics of strength in the human race.

I've asked around for some more recommendations for a good read - and I am starting The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo today (Several people recommended it!) I can't wait to dive in!

Have you read The Glass Castle?  What did you think?
Any must-read book ideas?

Also... it's the first day of FALL!  Can't wait to see the trees change color & decorate the house with some halloween goodies!  I hope you're enjoying your Wednesday :)

I have heard that The Glass Castle is sad, but wonderful. It's on my list! I bought The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo recently for the same reasons--everyone's buzzing about it. I've yet to start it, as I'm currently reading two other books, but I'm looking forward to it, cause series are fun!

This is one of my favorite books! I love it. It is moving, and like you said, very well-written. I think I might read it again actually. It's strange how you can forget about a book, and then once it's mentioned you remember how you felt when reading it!

Have you read the "Time-Travelers Wife"? One of my favorites for sure!

Have a good one! It's been too long since I have stopped by!

I LOVED The Glass Castle. I have a thing for memoirs and I agree with you...it's kind of hard to remember while reading that these things really happened to her. Great book!

I haven't read that, but I'll check it out. I'm always looking for new books :) Right now I'm reading Emma by Jane Austen. I told myself I'd get through as many classics as possible this year.

I read The Glass Castle a few years ago and loved it. This past winter I read Half Broke Horses, her newer book. It was also wonderful!

Tracy - The Glass Castle is MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!! The first time I read it I was just completely blown away. I have never read anything like it in my whole life and haven't since. As a matter of fact, it took me months to even be able to read another book again because everytime I picked one up, I compared it to this one and ended up putting it down because it wasn't entertaining enough! :) I'm glad you wrote a post about it because I think everyone should read this masterpiece!

I agree with Tracy. I have read maybe five or six books since reading The Glass Castle, and I continue my search for a masterpiece to compare with this one! I am so surprised it did not get more attention and that there is not yet a movie made of it! It changed my life! I think it should be required reading for all. The next time you run a warm bath or sit down to a hot meal you will feel more gratitude, appreciation, and mindfulness of your fortune, bet it ever so small. Jeanette Walls has the bravest and gentlest HUGE heart and the most incredible unassuming attitude. I want to give her a big hug! A true beauty inside and out.
