TL didn't even call to tell me that someone rear ended him on the freeway.
It was just casually brought up as he moved the golf clubs out of the car so my sister could sit down.
He was driving and suddenly traffic came to a stop... the girl behind him didn't slow down in time, and ran into him.
They both pulled over, and TL quickly studied the back bumper. It didn't look too bad.
The young girl, just a few days past 16 - was scared, upset, and extremely apologetic.
He said he calmed her down and let her go. He said she just kept saying 'thank you'.
Although I wasn't there and he didn't tell me what he said, I imagine he was very sweet with her. It was an accident, and fortunately she learned a lesson with a guy who has made his own fair share of mistakes.
He told me that a few years ago he bumped into a guys car on the Bay Bridge, and the guy let him go. So in essence, he was paying it forward.
When he told me the story... I got to thinking... accidents happen, people make mistakes. He probably could have turned in the scratches for a few hundred bucks, but instead, he chose not to. And now, when I look at the little imperfect bumper, it's a reminder that things happen, people have bad days, and sometimes you just have to give people a break. It all evens out in the end.

This is such a sweet story, and a good start to an otherwise blah Monday. I have gotten into a fender bender on the bay bridge, too! Once on the on ramp, and once right before the toll plaza. Yuck. This sort of kindness is really precious. :)

I love the "pay it forward" message...too often we get caught up in our owm lives and we forget that accidents do happen and that its not all about "us".
Love this story- a true example of the goodness and love TL has in his heart. We are so lucky to have him in our family! You two are perfect for each other!
This has happened to both my sister and I. We have both rear ended people to have them let us off the hook and we have in turn done the same thing.

I love this post Tracy, so positive and I couldn't agree more! Love TL's attitude and he totally made that gal's day. I once did this to a grandma that ran into the back of my car. It was Mother's Day and I didn't get mad, I just said have a Happy Mother's Day and let it slide. I think that touches people and helps them realize that we all make mistakes.

What a great guy. My 1st lil mistake was last year, I was in the middle of a crosswalk and decided to back up so you know people could walk through lol BUT I didnt put myslef back in drive! =( and I hit the person behind me, oh stupidity at its best! Fortunately the guy had a HUGE monster truck that wasnt even phased by my lil pt cruiser lol he just waved me off! Thank you jesus! =D

That's happened to me too. I rear ended a guy...he let me go...and I returned the favor a couple years later. Paying it forward really works!
TL is an angel and that girl will always remember his kindness. such a great reminder to always be thoughtful of others.
