Honeymoon: Lucern, Switzerland

Lucern
was the second to last stop on our honeymoon!
Coming from Interlaken, we had about a 3 hour train ride over to Lucern.  It was a stunning train ride with beautiful views of the mountain sides and lakes.  When we got to Lucern, we were so excited because the first thing we saw was a Starbucks!!  We ran to our hotel, then ran right back out... only to be disappointed that those tasty, tall coffees would set us back about $8.  Can you believe that!? :)  Everything was quite expensive in Lucern... but it was a beautiful city - worth it!  There are beautiful bridges, lots of shopping, and unique buildings.
This was the view from our train seats.
We gave in... but only once!
Our hotel is the pointy building.  It was called the Waldstaetterhof.
This was my favorite bridge... so beautiful.  Made completely of wood.  We walked across this quite a few times.
This is us on the stairs of that bridge.
Our favorite pub... we ate here two nights in a row and watched a European futbol game with the locals!  The beer was cheaper than the soda ;)
This is outside of Mr. Pickwick's pub.
The sleeping lion is a monument that is completely carved of stone.  It is old, big, and beautiful.
Our last morning there, we went for a long walk all over the town.  We hiked up to the top of this castle and enjoyed all of the beautiful views of the city.
Beautiful... right!?

Lucern was a beautiful stop.  Switzerland is one of my favorite countries!!

Oh Yes!
Lucern!
Been there...and straight from Interlaken!
When my sister and I went...
on our 4 month Europe trip...we stayed in a quaint little guest house in Lucern!
But began missing BALMER's so bad...we popped back on the train and went to Interlaken and back to Balmer's.
Can you believe Mr. Balmer (Eric) was so fascinated with these two blondes (sissy and I) that he picked us up from the train station!
After we got home...for several years...he would send us little packages from Switzerland with chocolates...watches from Balmers...stickers...water bottles! Loved it!
When Greg and I popped back by Balmers two summers ago...I was showing him the double room my sister and I stayed in! Of course I had a buy a tee shirt at the gift shop at Balmers...and can you believe they even had RUBBERS with that cute Balmer face on them!
Wild!
XOXOOOOXX!

I was born in this city, grew up here most of the time, and am now back working here. :) However, I'm ready to leave this town again. :D
Glad you enjoyed it!! And yes, I hardly go to Starbucks because it's so incredibly expensive I wanna cry right now. :(

HI Tracy
I hope you enjoyed your first Christmas as Mr & Mrs
Well I just love your photos.. I have been here also and have a similar photo of the wounded lion! Isn't it the most emotional carving that you've seen? I don't remember seeing water in front of it though.

Well looks like it was another wonderful stop on our honeymoon.. so glad you had a great time!! Have a wonderful 2010!! xx Julie

I LOVE Lucerne! It is by far my most favorite place on earth! I've been there twice and walked that same bridge, saw the lion, ate at Mr. Pickwick's and everything! Did you see the tennis courts and beautiful flower gardens too?! It's def. a place I want to return to real soon! What an amazing honeymoon you had :)

So crazy that you were at Mr. Pickwick! My Mom went to college in Lucern in the 70's and that was her hangout place. She took me on a trip when I was 6 or 7 and I remember visiting all those same places. Soo quaint and beautiful <3
