Somewhat Of A Secret

I love writing about the good things in my life on my blog. I feel like this is a representation of me - and I want to come across positive, because coming across that way - makes me feel that way, and writing about it reminds me on a daily basis of what I should be thankful for.

I have come to the same realization over and over in my life, and it's one you probably have too - and since I have been thinking about it, I just decided to throw it out there and share.

Everyday, do what makes you happy.

Okay... I know what you're thinking. DUH, Tracy, we've heard that a million times. But think about it - it may not be as simple as it seems.

Do what makes you happy. Even if you are contradicting yourself. Even if you are doing something you said you would never do. Even if it makes people judge you. Even if it puts you temporarily in debt. Even if you are afraid to do it. Even if what you are doing may be a decision that could change your life. Even if it may seem a tiny bit selfish. Even if it's something really small.

Do what makes you happy. Think thoughts that make you happy. Imagine yourself happy - then do everything you can to create what you've imagined, even if what makes you happy changes over and over, even it takes you a lifetime. You may have to work around the things that are out of your control, but working toward what makes you happy - is a joy in itself.

There are days I forget this, and there are days I am simply unsure what would make me happy. And a lot of times, I just wake up happy.

Happy.

This may be the most random blog I think I have written and it may not make sense. But somewhere in my mind, it all makes sense to me. I've kept it to myself for a while, kind of like a secret, hidden in my journals from childhood until now.

What makes you happy?? :)

I absolutely LOVE this post and it makes perfect sense! I am a firm believer that your attitude is everything. A positive happy attitude will give you a positive happy life, and the work will feel more meaningful towards the path to happiness.

I love your outlook and this is an awesome reminder. I am going to remind myself of this everyday. Looking at my little girl is a constant reminder to be happy. Happy for her and happy for myself for being given such a blessing.

I've been reading your blog for a while now and I really love it. Congratulations on your wedding by the way.
Thank you for writing this post. It is such an inspiration - not random at all ! I decided to quit grad school yesterday because the program does NOT make me happy. It's scary and I don't know what my next step is, but your words really hit close to home. Thank you !

This is by far my favourite post ever...in any blog. I love it Tracy...you've inspired me to do what makes me happy instead of wondering what everyone else thinks. And I'll come back and read it again and again until it really sinks in.
Thank you so much

This make SO much sense ~ my problem is getting over the guilt sometimes of doing what I want to do and not what someone else thinks I should be doing... or something as simple as sitting and reading my book when I know I should be cleaning the bathroom! We are the captains of our own ships and I agree with you completely. If we are unhappy, it is up to ourselves to change the course and our attitudes. Bravo for an excellent post Tracy!

I love this post... and it is not random in the least bit. I try to live this everyday- and it is amazing the power of positive thinking. I went through some tough times a few years ago and remember just sitting down one night and deciding life was too short to be unhappy. And it was honestly in that moment that I just decided I would be happy. I committed to being happy from that day forward... and the best part is, when you're truly happy, it's contagious, and you can lift the spirits of everyone around you! And then you get happier knowing others are happy and the happiness just compounds!! I could go on forever (because sooo much makes me happy and for that I am so grateful), but a few things that make me happy: my kitties, my wonderful friends, my favorite drink from Starbucks, laughing until my tummy hurts, cleaning and organizing, writing, trying new restaurants, playing dominoes, my daddy.... LOVE this post of yours!!

You're totally right! Some days I wake up thrilled about everything and some days I'm like "What in the world do I need to do in order to make me happy?" I get that completely! The fall always makes me get all personally reflective. so funny. So therefore I really like this post. :) And I also really like that you're back!!! :) Cant wait to catch up on your past month through your blog! XOXO!

Amen sister. Sometimes the key is just finding what makes you happy. When you do find it...hold on with both hands:)

Lady, you have no idea how much I needed this. I will do what makes me happy, even if it drastically changes my life forever. So glad you're back. Much love!

This is so funny. When you wrote that sometimes, you just wake up happy and then there was that pic of you and TL, I thought you actually wrote "proof" as in, here is proof that I am happy! But then I realized that that pic is a proof, haha. Make sense? Oy. I think you get what I mean. ANYWAY...

Love this post. And I agree. It's hard sometimes, but very important.

I completely agree! My life sometimes gets so hectic that I forget to take a breath and really enjoy it but I do my best to love the little things. I try hard not to worry too much about the everyday hype of life. What makes me happy is spending time with my loved ones. I often look at my husband, Michael, and wonder to myself how I got so lucky to have someone like him love me unconditionally. My family and friends mean the world to me and when we can relax and have a good time together- that, to me, is happiness.

Very good point! It's funny that it's so simple yet it can get lost in our daily busy lives! :)

So true! It's a simple concept, but for some reason it is so difficult to put into practice. It's one I am struggling with lately... I think we all do though!

Hope you have a HAPPY Monday (=

(online and all :) without them my happiness might not exist.

Haha, I do generally do things that make me happy every day (drink a diet coke for breakfast, have a luna bar, take a nap, read way too many blogs) but it's always great to get a reminder!

Hi Lovely Girl!

Can I tell you that I was walking along the street taking my son to preschool this morning.....and I found myself thinking about what you had written about happiness....and considering he was talking non-stop as usual, that was no mean feat!!

I loved what you wrote and yes, I really "got" what you meant....you are so right. Well done you for writing it down.

I am so excited to hear more about your European honeymoon...can wait to hear what you thought about all those fabulous cities!!

And SATC 2 - I am excited too!! Did you see the filming shots that Lori posted for us?

Have a great day!
